The Haka

While at the museum, we were able to go to a Maori Presentation where they did lots of traditional Maori dances and games, along with the Haka. I'm not gonna lie, it wasn't the best haka I've seen, but not too bad. Check it out for yourself:

It is interesting because my host mum and dad were in charge of EFY here in New Zealand a few weeks ago. They told some crazy stories about all the kids that came and how strong culture is for them here. One of the hardest things members of the church have to overcome is letting go of some of the traditions and cultural practices that are not in line with the church. Anyway, they had an incident where a few of the youth had a friend back home who committed suicide while they were at EFY. To honor him, the youth did a haka. These kids are born to do the haka. Literally. It really is beautiful and I can see why thy don't just flaunt it around because there is so much emotion and meaning that goes along with it. Pretty cool.
