Thursday
I tell you what, I could get used to these 4 day work weeks. I see what people mean when they say they have a hard time giving up Sunday because it really is nice to have 2 days in the weekend to get things done!
Today was very interesting. I thought my "ax" incident was bad. This one was more of a mental epiphany though. Today Ngaire came into school and made yet another envelope out of paper. She has been doing this for quite some time now and I was always curious as to what she was doing, but just thought she liked folding paper. Well, come to find out, she can't turn her lunch money in without putting it in an envelope and her family doesn't buy envelopes, so she resorted to making them herself. My little students are so resourceful. I think the part that amazes me the most is that she has never complained (none of them have ever complained come to think of it).
Also, I have never felt so cool as I do at school here. We rode our bikes this morning and I heard a chorus of "hi miss cardener!" from every kid in a red shirt. I'm learning: if you want to make someone feel really special, remember their name.
It gets better tonight though. It was parent night at our school. This meant sausage sizzle and net ball parents vs. teachers. Naturally, they put the Americans out there who know nothing. No big deal....its sort of like basketball. I get out there and a dad calls me Michael Jordan. I'm feeling cool, like Jimmer, and thinking this isn't too bad. Yeah....next thing I know, I airball it. Perfect. In my defense, there is no backboard so it was a tough shot....
That was the end of the MJ comments.
